Fanciful Fairy Cards

There's something quietly satisfying about making a tiny creature. The little world it belongs to exists somewhere in your imagination even before the making begins. Fairy cards bring their own kind of enchantment - whimsical enough to pull you out of your everyday thinking, and small enough to live on the kitchen table between school runs or cups of tea.

Handmade Magic from Scraps & Sparkle

I always say you don’t need fancy supplies for card-making, but imagination is compulsory. There’s no “right” way to make anything, but rather an endless array of possibilities, because creativity is about the process rather than the result.

Make fairy cards your way

Everyone makes fairies differently. I especially love needle felted fairies, and anything embroidered by hand, but these fairies are made from paper and wire, so they're quick to make. I say they're quick, but I can easily spend several hours collating the elements; considering and choosing colours, textures and materials is very therapeutic. The actual assembly can be a bit fiddly, so using a good glue is super important. I use Art Glitter Designer Adhesive which dries clear (with a stainless steel stopper pin to aid longevity). The little embellishments and decorative touches are what bring the fairy to life; a paper or fabric flower magically becomes a cute little dress, paper leaves transform into pretty wings, softly rolled felt becomes a stylish chignon. Whether you add a cluster of beads at the waist, or a pretty crown of tiny flowers, each small addition - or discerning restraint - adds personality and charm.

I made this fairy from one little ball of felt that fell off a keyring, a couple of paper leaves, beads and wire. Super simple.

Mindful Making

Making anything by hand is amazingly calming, so give yourself time to slow right down and enjoy the process. When you’re done, you have something handmade, heartfelt, and a little bit magical. Use your fairies on cards, display them in jars with fairy lights, hang them as ornaments on the Christmas tree, perch them on book shelves, or give one to a friend who needs a smile. Which ever way you use them, they’re the enchanting outcome of creativity and imagination at play. Find more fabulous fairy ideas on Pinterest.
