A beautifully crafted card deserves an equally beautiful container, and decorated envelopes bring everything together in a polished, boutique-style finish. Use your card design as the cue to create a bespoke ensemble, or just accentuate the envelope to deliver an upmarket stationery feel.
Smaller, compact patterns tend to look better as envelope linings, simply because you can see and appreciate more of the design within the confined space. Plain colours, and different textures are equally appealing when they enhance the whole look. Try a few things to see what you like.
