Single use items are a real burden on the environment, and I've often wondered why we don't reuse cards. Ordinarily, we write a message on the inside of the card, rendering it obsolete as soon as it is received. By adding one extra step, the humble handmade card can be used and appreciated more than once.

Reusable cards, by design
Any card can potentially become reusable, simply by adding a pretty, paper insert instead of writing on the card itself. By actively promoting the reuse of cards in this way, we help inspire others to think outside the square. Whether we reuse the card itself, or the components that comprise it, we extend the life of a handmade item, whilst demonstrating a resourceful commitment to reducing waste.
Reusing and upcycling is a step in the right direction. Making simple changes is all it takes to help extend the life-cycle of single use items.
More easy ways to make cards reusable
Every new opportunity to reuse or recycle allows us to breathe new life into an item that would otherwise get thrown away. To prepare a card for reuse, simply attach the inset with string or a tiny touch of glue, or insert into neatly cut incisions, or place loosely inside for easy removal. Alternatively, disassemble the elements, and reuse them on a new card. Find more ideas to reuse cards on Pinterest.
