Reusing Cards

Single use items are a real burden on the environment, and I've often wondered why we don't reuse cards. Ordinarily, we write a message on the inside of the card, rendering it obsolete as soon as it is received.  By adding one extra step, the humble handmade card can be used and appreciated more than once.

Reusable card set

Reusable cards, by design

Any card can potentially become reusable, simply by writing on a paper insert instead of on the card itself. Including a little bundle of coloured paper inserts, cut to size, effectively extends the life of a handmade card, and demonstrates a resourceful commitment to preventing waste. That same spirit runs through Sustainable Gift Wrap - another favourite way to give something a second life.

Reusing and upcycling is a step in the right direction. Making simple changes is all it takes to help extend the life-cycle of single use items.

More easy ways to make cards reusable

Every new opportunity to reuse or recycle allows us to breathe new life into an item that would otherwise get thrown away. Attach the paper inset with string, glue, neatly cut incisions, or just loosely placed for easy removal. Find more ideas to reuse cards on Pinterest.
