Some things have the magic baked in, and cupcakes are one of those, perfect for birthday cards, tea party invites or little thank you cards.

A Sweet Starting Point

For me, the making process begins with the physical sorting and gathering of resources. This initial pulling together of colours, materials, and layers, is possibly my favourite. It's the dream phase, where you start to see glimpses of how everything could work together. Felt and ribbon are fabulous for making little cupcake cards; when you find a piece of ribbon that works perfectly, or a colour combination that pops, that instant sense of anticipation arises, and the creative process shifts into gear. This is where imagination takes over - where you're no longer thinking, but playing.

Delicious Details

Recreating all the delicious details of a real cupcake on a small scale is fun. Which felt comes closest to that sherbety, pink icing tone? Do I want the frosting to look piped or puffy? Shall I try a mound of wool, or a pile of tangled thread? Does the cupcake case look better shiny, pleated, plain or polka-dotted? A pretty embellishment or creative design choice is what makes each card unique.

Use plain or patterned ribbon as the case, and let your creativity loose on the icing.
